Agricultural and Thatching Twine
Agricultural Twine is commonly used on cattle farms for bailing hay together. This poses less risk to the livestock, should the twine mistakenly be left in the hay when feeding, as the twine would digest naturally.
Because of its price and biodegradable characteristics, sisal fibre is also preferred for many domestic uses.
Thatching twine differs from normal agricultural twine because it is treated using tar. This enables it to be more resistant with termites and other insects. Sisal twine is the only twine deemed acceptable for roof thatching by the South African Bureau of Standards.
